Loomy's

I checked the Sunday Magazine today in the Belleville News Democrat and saw an article about a restaurant called Loomy's in Troy, IL.  I decided that I was going to make the trip to try one of their double cheeseburgers that I read about.  The restaurant décor was okay but I could care less when I get a burger that looks like the picture above.  The presentation is perfect!  The bun was good, just an average one with some nice toast to it.  The toppings were very fresh, however I don't like leaf lettuce on my burgers.  The texture and taste were very good, but I really couldn't taste any seasoning.  The sandwich has a great juiciness to it.  I was very happy that I made the 25 minute drive out to Troy.  I will definitely take another trip out that way soon to chow down on one of these again.  Here are my ratings:

Maid-Rite

I had to make another trip to Springfield, IL for business.  Once I completed my task I found a little drive-thru building that had a sign saying it was the first drive-thru in America.  When I walked in I was in awe.  What a cool place.  Very fast and professional.  I got two Maid Rite's with fries.  The burgers were awesome.  I love the loose meat with onions, and mustard.  I added ketchup to mine also.  The presentation was good, looked basic.  The bun was awesome, steamed and had a little crisp from the grease of the meat.  The toppings were great, just wish there were some pickles on it.  The texture and taste were superb!  Everything went perfect together.  There was some good juiciness, just not as much as a burger patty.  I loved this experience and can't wait for another trip to Springfield.  Here are my ratings:

Town Topic

I was in Kansas City for some business and knew I had to try Town Topic, since I've heard so much about it.  This place was awesome, tiny as can be.  You have to wait for someone to get up from a stool to sit down.  I ordered a single burger with grilled onions and pickles.  First off, the presentation is great.  The bun was good, nothing special, but held up nicely.  The toppings were excellent, especially the grilled onions.  The texture and taste were fantastic, just one piece of hard fat for mine.  The burger was also very juicy, which made for a great all around sandwich.  A very small burger that packs a punch of flavor.  Exactly what a diner burger is supposed to be.  Here are my ratings:

Eckert's Country Store and Orchard

Went to lunch with the family on Sunday and tried the Black and Bleu burger from Eckert's.  I was so disappointed I didn't know what to say.  Out comes this frozen patty that has been charred to dryness.  The presentation was nice as was the bun.  The toppings were wimpy and wilted.  The texture and taste was awful, like I said dry, frozen looking and tasteless.  I can't believe a country cooking store would use frozen meat for a burger.  I will never do that again.  Here are my ratings:

Time Out Bar and Grill

I ate at the Time Out Bar and Grill in Troy, IL last Thursday and decided to try their cheeseburger.  When this burger came out it didn't look like much.  Kind of small and insignificant.  The bun was good and so were the toppings.  Texture and taste were awesome.  There was some great seasoning done on this hand patted burger.  I enjoyed the flavor.  There was some substantial juice there also.  I would eat this burger again if I was in the area.  Here are my ratings:

Logan's Roadhouse

Sometimes I have a burger that surprises the shit out of me and Logan's Roadhouse had one of those.  I have tried this restaurant before, eating steak, and was not impressed.  I ordered the Route 66 burger while on the road in Eastern Kentucky and found a gem in the mountains.  This burger was so good it rated at the top with my other two best burgers.  First off the presentation was excellent.  The bun was very durable and flavorful.  The toppings were perfect, every pickle, onion, lettuce and tomato needed to be there and made the burger better.  The taste was great as well as the texture.  Juice was pouring out of this thing down my hand and wrist.  I can't wait to eat at another Logan's to see if I can get another one of these great burgers.  Here are my ratings:

Syberg's

We tried the new restaurant in O'Fallon, IL called Syberg's for dinner.  This place has a nice sports atmosphere, very loud, but expected.  The menu was very extensive but I went with a burger.  I believe you can judge an entire menu by how well the burger is.  I chose the BBQ bacon burger.  The toppings were off to the side but the rest of it looked good.  The bun started off good but got soggy halfway through.  The toppings were fresh and normal with a lump of choking cheddar cheese.  I did like the BBQ sauce.  The texture of the meat was good with absolutely no flavor.  All I could taste was flame.  I ordered the burger medium, which it came out that way, but with very little juice.  Overall, I was not impressed with this one.  If they would put as much effort into the food as they do the décor and T.V.'s it would be a better place.  Here are my ratings:
